Onion 'Toughball' F1 is the best over winter Japanese type onion from seed. It is a high yielding, medium early variety, producing good quality, globe shaped bulbs.
Toughball has good tolerance of Botrytis and Downy Mildew - essential for overwintered onions.
Recommended as a fine, fast growing variety ideal for the Exhibition market. Produces very uniform, round medium to large globes with strong skin. Firm flesh, high yielding and strong against bolting.
Onions are used in cookery almost on a daily basis and add lots of flavour to many dishes from the humble but tasty cheese & onion toastie to delicious soups, stews and posh nosh, they are a staple ingredient for many dishes.
Growing Tip:
Try growing onions with Mint to confuse and deter onion fly.

Alternative: Sow in January in the greenhouse at 18c, plant out at the 3/4 leaf stage.
